Mount for camera?

Postby mrcadman » Thu Aug 09, 2007 6:59 am

It would be nice if there was a threaded mount the same size as the camera standard tripod connection. This way when no connected to a tripod you could mount the PhotoTrackr easily and not lose it. Of course the PhotoTrackr model would have to be a little wider to allow setting the camera down without tipping over.

Don't you think it would affect the reception having a camera on top of it all the time?

Should not affect receptioon as I normally have to carry it in my hand or in a pocket of some sort.

I'd like to see it mount into the hot shoe on top of my camera.

While I like the hot shoe idea, it won't work with the current case design. This weekend, I did some major usage of my CD111 and the battery cover kept opening. Naturally, the lanyard falls off.

My new approach will be a fishnet bag on the camera strap. I need a really positive way of keeping from losing the device.

Yes it really does need some better mounting options. The current lanyard mount works (just), but I have already knocked it and had it dislodge the cover and the unit fall to the ground. Poor.

Given it's role, it needs a bunch of mounting options for the typical use cases:
1) Carried:
- secure lanyard for neck
- strap to arm /
2) Strap to item e.g. backpack strap
- sort of like ipod arm mount - something a strap can pass through, or other secure mounting can attach to

Then it needs to be able to pass a basic knock / drop test without it being damaged.

I resorted to wrapping clear packing tape along the battery door cracks and abandoning the lanyard. It is the only way to keep the battery door from popping open in mid trip.

Personally I just stuff mine in the top pocket of my back-pack or in a pocket of my clothing once it has a fix and I remain under open sky that seems to work.

RoyS - The fishnet bag sounds very attractive to me. If / when you find something like that, I'd sure like to hear about it.

Mine works OK in a top shirt pocket but a pants pocket or under a coat is at best intermittant. I lost most of one outing after I checked for a signal and then put it in a shirt pocket under a coat under wide open skies. I liked the fishnet idea so just bought a little poach to hold it safely with maximun exposure. -Marty
